Netflix is a great app that almost always has a great selection of films and shows. Despite this some of the formatting for the mobile version could be improved. It now shows previews for shows that you click on. These previews cannot be canceled until they are done. Also the price for the App has been increasing at a high rate despite the fact that most of the selections haven’t improved too much. Lastly, the app cycles through movies too quickly and often removes them after quite a short time. It also promotes its Netflix originals a lot, despite the fact that most of them aren’t anything exceptional.

Netflix is an amazing studio conglomeration. Their animation team, which seeks out groups who have promising, unorthodox, and unique projects, dumps money on the right studios. Their work -The Little Prince, The Willoughbys, Klaus, Lu Over The Wall, Over The Garden Wall, and many other films- are crunchy, flavorful pieces that have not struggled through development hell -Klaus has a truly bizarre end as well as dark themes, an alcohol reference, The Willoughbys has strange mannerisms, twists, and stylistic choices, and The Little Prince boasts an obsessive-compulsive relationship with staying in character with its source material, word-for-word, quirk by quirk. I hardly need to mention their anime division, their collection of classic shows, Black Mirror, Lost In Space, Stranger Things, etc. and their bizarre experiments like Bandersnatch. I hate the application in a way I hate few things. You will spend hours- whether tens, hundreds, or thousands depends on your self-control- dealing with this awful piece of junkware. It is fairly intelligent and also fairly manipulative, not unlike an overly pushy Anime Nerd BFF, who pushes for things and waits for your response and learns. It starts becoming unbearable after your first 50 hours. The best way to Netflix is research the best films and watch them. When I watch TV, I take screenshots of pivotal moments and cute things, rewind, fast-forward, rewatch the credits for music, and download things I love to replay them when I’m ready. The download system is bizarre. Heaven help you if you download a show and delete it, because Netflix will never let you redownload it. Somehow it manages to scratch out every photo and screen recording you take. And if you love one of the watchlists auto-generated by the app, some of which are incredible, there’s no way to save it, pin it, or do anything with the list. It isn’t recorded online, it isn’t written anywhere. Your perfect watchlist has vanished into the manipulative AI void. Is their content better than 9/10ths of Hollywood? Yes. Is their app a creepy, horrid monster that goes Black Mirror on your watch history and your love of binges? Yes. Get it for the content, not the app, and for the love of everything, form a watchlist outside of the app, because it WILL drown you in an AI-driven rehash of suggested content.
